Journaling Through the Proverbs – April

Published by

Welcome to April. April brings us visions of spring. Winter is about to return to her resting place, well at least for those of us in Texas, and we will be opening up our windows and letting the fresh air flow through our homes. April also starts with a day designated for fools. At this age, I have learned that April is not the only month that is home to fools, there are fools about us 365 days a year. This is an excellent month to spotlight the Proverbs because the Proverbs are our antidote for fools and foolish behavior. In Proverbs 1:1-7, King Solomon provides for us the purpose of importance of this book of Wisdom.

“To know wisdom and instruction, to discern the sayings of understanding, to receive instruction in wise behavior, righteousness, justice and equity; To give prudence to the naive, to the youth knowledge and discretion, A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel, to understand a proverb and a figure, the words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Let us continue in journaling together through the amazing words of wisdom God has blessed us with through the Proverbs. If you have not purchased your Proverbs journal you can do so here in our online catalog. We have a one-year and six-month journal and a journal for you. These journals would make a great tool for family devotions. So even though I am a few days late, let’s keep journaling.

April 30, 2025 – Proverb 30:10-12, “Do not slander a slave to his master, or he will curse you and you will be found guilty. There is a kind of man who curses his father and does not bless his mother.  There is a kind who is pure in his own eyes, yet is not washed from his filthiness.” When someone slanders another person after investigating the slanderer is usually exposed and found to be guilty, once this happens that person will be found untrustworthy. As followers of Christ, our character should reflect His righteousness and not one of slander and falsehood. Children should also not behave in an ungodly way towards their parents. No matter how a parent may have behaved God tells us to honor our mother and father. Parenting is hard and moms and dads are people with a sinful nature. They are not perfect nor should they present themselves as if they are perfect or superior to their children. They must learn together with their child how to love and nurture them and the child must learn to have grace for their parent as they must be responsible for cultivating their character into one that is obedient and submissive to God and those in authority.

When we become wise in our minds and do not see our sinfulness, it creates arrogance. Those with such a mindset can see other people’s sin but they can not see their own. Paul tells us in Romans to not think more highly of ourselves than we ought to think, but to think soberly. When we think humbly God will be able to lead us in a way that causes us to please Him and have grace for others. When we hide God’s Word in our hearts, it helps us to keep ourselves from sinning against God. Memorizing God’s Word will help us to evaluate ourselves correctly and remember that it is Christ who makes us righteous and not ourselves. Be blessed.

April 29, 2025 – Proverbs 29 – Proverbs 29:11-16, “A fool always loses his temper, But a wise man holds it back. If a ruler pays attention to falsehood, all his ministers become wicked. The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: The Lord gives light to the eyes of both. If a king judges the poor with truth, his throne will be established forever. The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother.  When the wicked increase, transgression increases; But the righteous will see their fall.” The easiest thing we can do in a situation when confronted is to allow the flesh to react instead of stepping back and allowing the Holy Spirit to bring us wise counsel or to just calm our spirit. The devil loves it when we are reactionary instead of thoughtful. If we take just a couple of moments to think about the consequences of how we react, it can save us a lot of embarrassment, misunderstanding, undue stress, premature anger, and broken relationships. But a wise man or woman should not react. Wisdom calls for thoughtfulness and to be able to assess the best way in which to respond instead of react. I have learned to turn off my ability to react. It has afforded me much peace in this season of my life.

We also learn through today’s Proverbs how we should respond as leaders to known liars and falsehoods. We should not even pay attention to it or give it any credence. We should never participate in falsehood, either promoting it or condoning it as leaders. It is a strange thing that the Lord gives us all an equal playing field when it comes to life. God gives us all the breath of life, to sustain us wherever He has planted us.

Some will use their lives for foolishness and some for prosperity. Our upbringing has a lot of bearing on how we choose the path of our lives. Parents must teach their children to use their gifts to the best of their abilities. Every person born has a gift, but not all parents cultivate their child’s gifts as they see them demonstrate them as they grow up. This will have either a negative or positive impact on the type of choices that child makes for his or her life. In the same way, when a parent loves their child, they will train and discipline them to build character and moral fortitude. But when a parent does nothing to cultivate their child’s heart and soul for God, their child can make poor decisions and eventually bring shame to their family. God’s Word tells us to train our children in the way they should go and to raise our children in the training and admonition of the Lord. Deuteronomy 6 is a chapter that instructs Christian parents about their responsibility to teach their children to know God. This is the sole responsibility of parenting. Be Blessed!

April 28, 2025 – Proverbs 28 – Proverbs 28:15-18, “Like a roaring lion and a rushing bear is a wicked ruler over a poor people. A leader who is a great oppressor lacks understanding, but he who hates unjust gain will prolong his days. A man who is laden with the guilt of human blood will be a fugitive until death; let no one support him. He who walks blamelessly will be delivered, but he who is crooked will fall all at once.”

God’s Word gives us teaching for everything we need in life. These Scriptures above, although a small number of Scriptures, can give us a great picture of the type of leaders we should choose to lead us in our homes, churches, workplaces, businesses, and government. Just by the Scriptures above, create a description of the kind of leader God would desire you to choose. Look at what attributes of a person’s character would be comparable to these Scriptures. Then consider the type of people you choose and how it lines up to the Scriptures. Be blessed!

April 27, 2025 – Proverbs 27:11-13, “Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad, that I may reply to him who reproaches me.  A prudent man sees evil and hides himself, the naive proceed and pay the penalty. Take his garment when he becomes surety for a stranger, And for an adulterous woman hold him in pledge.” This Scripture is one I have taken on for my peace of mind. We have to pray about the decisions and choices we make and we have to observe those whose circles we are entering. Not everyone has our best interest. When we see that people behave with evil intent, we should keep ourselves away from them, if they do evil to others, eventually we will also be the receiver of their evil. All parents want their children to grow up and make wise choices and do well in life, but we must do our job, as parents, to cultivate a mindset of making wise choices.

If our children see us making unwise decisions they may follow that when they are adults. When we see people heading for destruction we should do all we can to intervene and hold them back from making bad choices. However, when someone reaches the age of adulthood, they want to do what they want to do and will not want people holding them back for the thing they feel that they should be able to do. I have experienced this with our adult children. We try to counsel them that the decision they want to make is not the right decision, but sometimes they should learn on their own the hard way. Be blessed!

April 26, 2025 – Proverbs 26:11-13. “Like an archer who wounds everyone, so is he who hires a fool or who hires those who pass by. Like a dog that returns to its vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.  Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road! A lion is in the open square!” These Proverbs give us wisdom in how to make wise decisions. If we ask someone with no experience to do a job that requires experience, that person can create unnecessary work for everyone. Those involved would have to clean up his errors and rework was has been done incorrectly. This waste both time and money. This is a great message of wisdom to those who employ others. The mistakes we make in life should help us gain wisdom for the next time the same thing happens. There are those who do not learn from their mistakes and they repeat their bad actions over and over again, expecting wise results. This is foolishness. If we make unwise choices, we will reap bad consequences.

When we are wise in our own eyes, there is more hope for a foolish person than for the one who is so arrogant, he or she can not see their own errors. Paul teaches us in Romans that we should no think more highly of ourselves than we ought to think. This means that we should always be able to receive constructive criticism without being offended. There is always something good to learn about ourselves when we talk the counsel of others and not just think that we know everything. Be blessed!

April 25, 2025 – Proverbs 25 – Proverbs 11-13, “Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances.  Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold Is a wise reprover to a listening ear.  Like the cold of snow in the time of harvest Is a faithful messenger to those who send him, for he refreshes the soul of his masters.” I love how God’s Word gives us word pictures about the insights God desires us to receive. Apples of gold in a setting of silver would be a beautiful centerpiece for a table. When we speak words of comfort in the right circumstances, it is a beautiful act of wisdom. It delights the soul and comforts the heart to uphold such beauty, just as it does to receive edifying words. Not everyone wants to listen to those who reprove us. When we are confronted because of our behavior, we tend to resort to making excuses or trying to justify our behavior. But when we humble ourselves and listen to the words of those who love us enough to speak the truth in love, the value is priceless, just as fine gold is priceless.

Also fine gold is pure, it is like looking into a mirror, and we can see our reflection. When a wise reprover confronts us it is also like we are looking into a mirror. Our reflection may not be something we are proud of, but when we listen, we can become like pure gold where our reflection is without the sin of disobedience. We are to be faithful messengers, not telling those close to us what they want to hear but what they need to hear, even if it causes them to not like us in the beginning they will see that we have their best interest and come around. Those who love us will sacrifice, us liking them, for us knowing the truth and that is a true faithful friend. Be blessed.

April 24, 2025 – Proverbs 24:11-12. “Deliver those who are being taken away to death, and those who are staggering to slaughter, Oh hold them back. If you say, “See, we did not know this, ”Does He not consider it who weighs the hearts? And does He not know it who keeps your soul? And will He not render to man according to his work? The Scriptures tell us that God knows our thoughts before we think them, and what words we are going to say before we utter a word. When we try to deceive others, God knows what is true, and He can never be deceived by the things we do as humans. Sometimes man thinks that he or she is getting away with something because the other person does not know what has been done. But no one gets away with anything. God will expose all sinful actions in due time and there will be a consequence.

He will recompense those who sin and there will be a consequence for evil acts. We can trust that God will bring justice. His justice is not on our timeline. We may never see it on this side of heaven but God will bring judgment for sin. If you have been wronged by the actions of someone else take the road Christ took and ask God to forgive them, for they know not what they are doing. Christ suffered more than any other human will and He asked that His offenders be forgiven. We are without excuse for doing the same thing when we are offended if we are followers of Christ. Be blessed.

April 23, 2025 – Proverbs 23:7-9 – “For as he thinks within himself, so he is. He says to you, “Eat and drink!” But his heart is not with you. You will vomit up the morsel you have eaten, and waste your compliments. Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words.” God has provided us with His commandments to protect us from the deception of sin. In Exodus 20, God gives Moses the 10 commandments. Those commandments dealt with how to relate to God and how to relate to each other. In Proverbs, we have commands on how to deal with life. The Scriptures above are great commandments for life and conduct. They will keep us from toxic situations and from those who do not have our best interest. As you read Proverbs 23, you will notice that several of the verses are commandments. They are meant for us to adhere to. When we cast them aside or follow man instead of God we are saying that we know better than the One who created life. This is evident in how people have gone away from disciplining their children.

Proverbs 23:13-14 commands us, “Do not hold back discipline from the child, although you strike him with the rod, he will not die. You shall strike him with the rodand rescue his soul from Sheol.” Who knows better the world, our children, our friends, or God? When we refuse the Word we are saying that we know better than God. That is why He has given us repentance; so that we can agree with Him, that He knows better and agree with what He says. Our heavenly Father knows what is best. As you read Proverbs 23, consider the various commandments that are given for us to adhere to. God has a much better plan for us and He knows the plan from start to finish. We can trust that He has our best interest. Be blessed!

April 22, 2024 -Proverbs 22:10-12, “Drive out the scoffer, and contention will go out, even strife and dishonor will cease. He who loves purity of heart and whose speech is gracious, the king is his friend. The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge, but He overthrows the words of the treacherous man.” When we are diligent in being careful who we allow in our circle of influence we will decrease the amount of drama and unnecessary strife in our lives. When we seek to be around those who are kind-hearted and who speak words of life and encouragement, they make our days and lives better. People who seek to make drama and are contentious are people who have not found peace with God. They will constantly stir up trouble or seek to be where the trouble is. God will preserve our words, making them into lasting vessels of encouragement when our words are edifying. But when someone desires only to speak evil God will overtake those words.

We who are followers of Christ should always seek to speak words of truth as we are encouraged by Paul in Philippians 4:8, ” Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” Let us be those who speak truth in love and our love will bring peace and comfort to those around us. Be Blessed!

April 21, 2025 – Proverbs 21:28-31, “A false witness will perish, but the man who listens to the truth will speak forever. A wicked man displays a bold face, but as for the upright, he makes his way sure. There is no wisdom and no understanding and no counsel against the Lord. The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory belongs to the Lord.”

There is a response that follows listening. That response is acting. When we are listening to God’s truth, it makes us act in a way that pleases God. If we are listening and not just hearing or reading, we will be moved to change. Sometimes I have to read my Scriptures over three and four times because I don’t want to just read them. I want it to sink in my head and flow to my heart, I want it to change me and illuminate me in whatever way God pleases. But we never come to a place where we question or give counsel to God. He is always better prepared than any of us. We can do so many things to prepare ourselves to battle the twists and turns of this life, but we cannot achieve victory without God. I have come to see through these last months how some believe that they can be victorious without God. We can’t. All victory in any circumstance belongs to the Lord. Think about that. Be blessed!

April 20, 2025 – Proverbs 20:27-30, “The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the innermost parts of his being. Loyalty and truth preserve the king, and he upholds his throne by righteousness. The glory of young men is their strength, and the honor of old men is their gray hair. Stripes that wound scour away evil, and strokes reach the innermost parts.”

I encourage you to think about these Scriptures in understanding the purpose God had in mind even as He created us. Our spirit is a lamp of the Lord. It illuminates everything God needs to see in us. It is like we are human lanterns. Even for those who are lost God still sees through the innermost part of their being. So they may be lost today, just as we were at one time lost but at the right time God will kindle their spirits and draw their spirits to His. Sometimes the best people in our lives are those who are not afraid to see us suffer so that God can work in us His strength. Sometimes the words your friend may speak may not be what you want to hear and may even be hurtful. But God will use it to heal you and may even help you to turn away from evil. Think about it. Be blessed!

April 18, 2025 – Proverbs 18 - Proverbs 18:10-12, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it and is safe. A rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his own imagination. Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, but humility goes before honor.”

The name of the Lord is such a strong tower for those who trust in Him. His name has authority over all things in this life. His name has power over the enemy, over his demons and sin. We are safe when we abide in the power of His name. But it is pride and arrogance that causes an individual to think that they can live this life without the presence of God. We can do nothing without Jesus. It may look like everything is going well, and that is the ploy of the enemy to give an appearance of good, but in the end, we only reap destruction. I encourage you to take time today to sit with God and enjoy the blessing of His Word. Be blessed!

April 17, 2025 – Proverbs 17 – Proverbs 17: 7-9, “Excellent speech is not fitting for a fool, much less are lying lips to a prince. A bribe is a charm in the sight of its owner; wherever he turns, he prospers. He who conceals a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates intimate friends.”

I hope that you will continue to allow the contrast of the righteous and the wicked to give you wisdom to build your life. God has given us a great gift in His Word and He has been gracious to provide us wisdom in knowing how to deal with this life. A fool only knows how to speak in a way that showcases himself. He is stuck on himself. He does not know how to use his words to comfort, encourage, give grace, or anything else that may make another person’s life easier. This Proverbs also teaches us that certain qualities should be evident when choosing a leader. He or she should be a liar. We should seek to support leaders who are honest and have integrity. As followers of Christ, our first reaction to someone’s response to us should not be to take offense. We should try and think the best about a person so that the devil does not put more evil in our minds. When we take offense to things that may seem offensive, that is a choice and we could in the same way choose to ignore it or cover it with grace. May you be blessed as you allow God’s Word to draw you closer to Him. Be Blessed!

April 19, 2025 – Proverbs 19:16-18, “He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is careless of conduct will die. One who is gracious to a poor man lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his good deed. Discipline your son while there is hope, and do not desire his death.”

Living a set-apart life for God and our Lord is not easy. We must come to the place in our lives where we love God so much that we truly desire to be just like Him. Our desire is not to appease man but to humble ourselves under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. God has taught us to desire good, righteousness, and life by practicing His Word. I have learned that there is no one as generous as God and His character of generosity should be reflected in how we live our lives. Scripture teaches us to be always willing to give and when we give to give with excellence. God has paid us all one hundredfold every time He wakes us up. He shows His love by challenging us testing our faith and disciplining us so that we will live. That is the same desire we should have for our children. I understand why God commands us as He does in verse 18, He knows the destructive path of the ungodly and He wants us to protect our children from that path just as He protects us through His Word. Be blessed!

April 16, 2025 – Proverbs 16:7-10 – “When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. Better is a little with righteousness than great income with injustice. The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. A divine decision is in the lips of the king; His mouth should not err in judgment.”

God desires to establish us in His righteousness. Proverbs 16, reminds us of how God desires us to seek to live righteously, to love righteousness, and to live our lives through acts of righteousness. As you are ministered today, think about this question. How pressed are you to embrace righteousness and live righteously? God has provided a blessing through His Word, and He desires to see us accomplish that which He created us for. We can plan and make goals and have aspirations, but the Lord will order our steps to the place He desires us to be when we do those things that are pleasing in His sight. We make our way and want God to bless it. We must have that same mindset that is in Christ, “not my will, but Your will be done”.

    Be blessed!

April 15, 2025 – Proverbs 15:10-12, “Grievous punishment is for him who forsakes the way; He who hates reproof will die. Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the Lord, how much more the hearts of men! A scoffer does not love one who reproves him, he will not go to the wise.” God is so gracious to share with us the wisdom of life by gifting King Solomon with the ability to discern wise judgment. Sadly, we face so much tragedy in this life when we have the answers to making wise choices written for us to understand. Why is it that man would rather, reap the consequences of bad decisions and bring death upon themselves by making foolish and rebellious decisions than submit themselves to the wisdom of the Lord? But as Paul said, we were all once sinners going astray and if it had not been for the grace of God through the salvation provided in Christ, we would all have perished in our sins. I have witnessed my family members cut their lives short because they would rather live their foolish way than adhere to the safety found in God’s Word.

We can not hide what is in our hearts from God. When people say, “God knows my heart”, that is a very dangerous thing to say. Yes, God does know our hearts, and He knows the true motive of our hearts, so if someone says that to deceive others into thinking that they are good and they are not, they will face God’s judgment for their lies and deception. We can not lie to God and He will hold us accountable, so be careful when using that phrase. It is so true that those who desire to live foolishly will not go to those who would give them godly advice, they would despise that type of person and go to those who like King Rehoboam, give them poor guidance. God desires to bless us and guide us to His good plan, but we must be willing to submit to His way of getting us there. Be blessed!

April 14, 2025 – Proverbs 14:10-12, “The heart knows its own bitterness, and a stranger does not share its joy.  The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.  There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” We can sometimes deceive ourselves about our hearts. Our heart will not usually respond to a stranger due to its ability to guard us or warn us in various ways. And when we trust someone we don’t know, it can lead us to be betrayed. This damages our relationship with Christ and our relationship with others. God delights in blessing His children. We do not choose to live a set-apart life to get something from God. We live our lives set apart because of all He has already given us through the sacrifice of His Son, Christ our Lord.

Jeremiah 17:9 teaches us, “The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick; Who can understand it?” When someone counsels you to follow your heart, that is the worst advice ever.  Our heart can deceive us because it wants its way. The heart will rebel against good counsel found in God’s Word. People who live upright lives flourish because they trust in God’s Word to lead them and God’s Word will never lead us astray. But our hearts can send us down a destructive path. Proverbs 14:5 says, “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” There is a way that we may think is right, but since only God knows our lives from beginning to end, only He knows what is truly the right way for us. Again, as I have said in previous comments, we must love God and love to live in obedience to His Word. Be blessed!

April 12, 2025 – April 12, 2025 – Proverbs 12: 10-11, “A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal, but even the compassion of the wicked is cruel. He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, but he who pursues worthless things lacks sense.” What I love about these Scriptures is that they show the value that animals have in our lives. We have grandcats and granddogs, who we love as if they were human grandkids. We love them because they show us so much love and affection. One of our grand cats is a boy and he loves his grandpa and his grandpa loves him. A righteous man will not forget the love and loyalty their furry animal has shown to them and will care for their animals accordingly. When I see a stray animal, I see an animal who was owned by a cold and heartless person. When one thinks that leaving their animal on the streets to find their way is somehow showing compassion, it reveals the truth we are taught in Proverbs 12:10. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 teaches us about what love looks like. “Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant,  does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

These Scriptures describe how we produce prosperity in this life. We must learn to manage the blessings God has given us well. Our investment of time and money should be first in the things that result in spiritual profit. When we make wise decisions it will yield good fruit. When we are wise with our money, we will experience prosperity. So today, think about how you treat your animal and how you manage the financial blessings God provides. A righteous man cares for his or her animals and cares about how he or she manages their finances. Be blessed.

April 11, 2025 – Proverbs 11: 12-14-“He who despises his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding keeps silent. He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy conceals a matter. Where there is no guidance the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is victory.” God has sovereignly placed us in our communities as He saw fit. We all have a purpose in each other’s lives as neighbors. The Scriptures tell us that we should love our neighbors, not despise them. There are people who live next to each other and do not make contact. Our neighbors should know that when there is a need we will do our best to pull the community together for support. They should know that they are prayed for often. Being a good neighbor is not just bringing over a pie, or welcome bag. We must be good neighbors who lead our neighbors to know Christ and Him crucified. When we are entrusted with someone’s secrets instead of gossiping we should do the utmost to respect that person’s confidentiality. God calls to be people who are holy and holy people don’t spread gossip about others. God wants us to see good council. He wants us to make plans, but leave the final decisions to Him, following Him as He leads us.

Do you have a vision for your life? Do you have milestone markers that celebrate different goals that you have set for yourself? Do you write down and make comparisons of where God has you now and where He has bought you from? When we live our lives from day to day with no real vision or goals in sight we miss the ability to see the many ways in which God has changed us and matured us to be more like Him. Think about it. Be blessed!

April 10, 2025 – Proverbs 10 – Proverbs 10:10-12, “He who winks the eye causes trouble, and a babbling fool will be ruined. The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all transgressions.” The Scriptures tells us to let our yes, be yes, and our no, no, anything else is from the evil one. When we swear, wink the eye, cross our fingers, bet and do the likes, we are first not being honest and when one is caught in an act of dishonesty, they loose the ability to be seen as trustworthy. A person who is always seeking to give an answer, and babbles just to hear themselves talk will be ruined. When we babble and that babbling is filled with lies, once exposed it can ruin a person. They can lose their friends, family, job, financial status and so much more. When we are speaking life into the lives of those around it, people will want us to be around. When we are pretentious and phony, people will not want to be around us because we are concealing our true motives and intentions. Those who are righteous, desire to lead others to live righteously, but those who are wicked only seek to have their own way.

We must be careful about the people that we allow in our circle of influence. When we have someone who is always the center of strife and contentions, that person is someone who loves to stir up strife. They can not rest unless they are bring trouble to someone’s life. But those who are righteous seek to see people grow and be the best that God has created them to be. As you read Proverbs 10, please share what insights God provided for you.

April 9, 2025 – Proverbs 9:9-11, “Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For by me your days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you.”

We can never be too wise. We can never know enough about God. True wisdom comes from having the right respect and reverence for God and His power. As the Body of Christ God desires for us to learn together, grow together, pray together worship, and serve together. But these times help us to understand just how important our relationship with God and Christ is through the Holy Spirit. One of the things I have learned through these times is that no matter if I am walking my faith alone or have a family of believers around me, my faith must be in Christ alone. The Word of God is my instructor through the Holy Spirit and teaches me at all times.

The knowledge of the Holy One, is essential to understanding wisdom, because in knowing God we understand that all of creation is subject to His sovereignty. Communion with God should be our way of life. I pray that you will have an amazing Holy Spirit filled week because you have allowed God to fill your heart each and every day through His Holy Spirit. He is like our personal pastor. He convicts us, talks to us, convicts us, comforts us, corrects us and leads us to serve in ways we would never consider. I pray that you will embrace God’s gift of our helper, Holy Spirit each and every day. Be blessed.

April 8, 2025 – Proverbs 8:10-12, “Take my instruction and not silver, and knowledge rather than choicest gold.  “For wisdom is better than jewels; And all desirable things cannot compare with her. “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion.” Wisdom is essential to making decisions that produce good fruit. We can not live aimlessly, making foolish decisions, over and over again and expecting a different outcome. Sure, one can gain wisdom through their mistakes, but this type of foolishness is making the same foolish decisions without learning from it the first time, second, or 20th time. We are up to uphold wisdom as a priceless treasure. It is a gift of God’s grace toward us when He extends wisdom to us. Having wisdom and having just your basic needs met is better than having wealth and squandering it on foolishness and life is nothing but chaos. Nothing can compare to God’s wisdom, it helps us understand the path of life and how to navigate and follow God’s directions.

When one acquires wisdom, the result is prudence, knowledge, and discretion. These traits are essential to building a life of peace and contentment. It will cost if we do not ask God for His wisdom in making life’s hard decisions. When a parent enables their child to behave unwisely, it will bring destruction to their lives. As our Father, God does not allow us to take the easy way out. He wants us to trust His Sovereign knowledge and wisdom of all things. Trusting Him is both wise and courageous, especially your decision may turn others against you. Think about it. Who is your go-to, when a hard decision needs to be made? Practice going to God first and He will help you make the right decision every time. Be blessed!

April 7, 2025 – Proverbs 7 – Yesterday, in Proverb 6, God gives instructions specifically to parents. We saw how God was teaching us to train up our sons in a way that they will choose good wives to raise up a godly heritage. Today we see what happens when our young men are not sound in their understanding of God’s Word and living a holy life. There is always someone waiting to deceive the naive. When we do not weigh what we learn, hear and accept by the principles of God’s Word it will surely lead us astray.

Proverbs 7:24-27 “Now therefore, my sons, listen to me and pay attention to the words of my mouth. Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways, do not stray into her paths. For many are the victims she has cast down, and numerous are all her slain. Her house is the way to Sheol, Descending to the chambers of death.” The enemy will always have his demonic forces out waiting and ready to deceive those who are not listening and paying attention. Evil is all around us, and as we read in the Proverbs for today, the young man was lacking sense. He had no wisdom, discretion, or discernment. This is what happens when we do not train our children in the Word, teaching them the purpose God has created them to fulfill. If we only read the Word of God, but do not apply it. We are only being puffed up and it will not lead us to be trained up or know the way in which we should go. We can end up going astray, lacking sense, and being destroyed by the tricks of the evil one. When you hear or read the word of God, do you also pay attention to it? Be blessed!

April 6, 2025 – Proverbs 6 – April 6, 2025 – Proverbs 6 – Proverbs 6: 9-11, “How long will you lie down, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest”— Your poverty will come in like a vagabond and your need like an armed man.”

Paul also taught us this in 2 Thessalonians 3:10, “For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.” God has given us all certain gifts to use for the purpose He created us. We are all given gifts, talents abilities, and the ability to learn certain skills. When one chooses not to contribute to society, by not using these gifts, talents, or abilities or choose not to learn, then that individual will expect others to carry their responsibility. It is an offense to God to become a sluggard. Being eager to work and serve others, and especially serve God brings about eternal rewards.  God is waiting to use your gifts and skills, so do amazing things for His glory. Be blessed!

April 5, 2025 – Proverbs 5:12-14 – “And you say, “How I have hated instruction! And my heart spurned reproof!“ I have not listened to the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to my instructors!“ I was almost in utter ruin In the midst of the assembly and congregation.”

Proverbs 5 provides us with a picture of what happens when we continue in the hardness of our hearts toward God and His teaching. In Proverbs 1, God reminds us of what will happen when we continue to ignore His commands go astray, and follow our ways. Then when trouble comes, those who rejected His Word will call upon Him but He will not answer. Being without the knowledge and wisdom of God will destroy us because we can not exist apart from Him. Even those who reject Him are subject to Him. There is nowhere we can go away from God. I pray you will be ministered to as Proverbs 5 provides more wisdom for godly living. May your heart be at peace as you follow the path of God. Have a great weekend!

April 4, 2025 – Proverbs 4:8-11, “Prize her, and she will exalt you; She will honor you if you embrace her. “She will place on your head a garland of grace; She will present you with a crown of beauty. ”Hear, my son, and accept my sayings and the years of your life will be many.” I have directed you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in upright paths.” Proverbs 4, continues to teach us the wisdom of walking with God. Our life as followers of Christ requires us to be committed to walking a very intentional path of right living. I believe that one of the main reasons so many walk away from the church, close their ears to the gospel, or reject that Christianity has much more to offer than a life of hopelessness apart from God, is because Christians do not take their relationship with Christ seriously. So many have been misled by the false teaching that salvation is like a spiritual lotto. Many become takers instead of givers. They want to feel good, but not do good. They want to have Biblical knowledge without having the Bible transform them. I encourage you to allow the book of Proverbs to become a tool of discipleship. It’s so much more than just a book of wise sayings. There are many Scriptures that call us to walk upright, heed those instructions, and allow them to prune and shape your walk of faith. Be blessed!

April 3, 2025 – Proverbs 3:13-16, “How blessed is the man who finds wisdom and the man who gains understanding. For her profit is better than the profit of silver and her gain better than fine gold. She is more precious than jewels; And nothing you desire compares with her. Long life is in her right hand; In her left hand are riches and honor.” When we submit our minds to the wisdom of God’s Proverbs we find a priceless treasure. The Proverbs deal with every issue of life, either directly or indirectly. When we apply the Proverbs to our daily lives, they will provide us with peace and contentment through the ability to make wise choices.

Profit is not always just monetary. Profit is the net value of gain over loss. We gain wisdom that provides us with clarity and peace. This profits us because when we live without stress, we live healthier lives. We are free from stress, sickness, anxiety, and depression. That alone profits us because healthcare is very costly these days. When one lives foolishly going about living aimlessly, it creates stress, anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts. Nothing we desire compares to the peace and tranquility we receive by submitting to God’s wisdom through the Proverbs.

We live in a materialistic society. We live in a time when being rich is not a far-off dream. There are many ways to strike it rich in today’s capitalistic and materialistic world. I know several well-to-do families, whose life situations are not well. All the financial treasures they have attained do not solve issues of the soul; only God can settle the turmoil of our souls and He has given us a remedy in Christ. He tells us if we ask for wisdom, He will give it to us liberally. We have His wisdom liberally in the Proverbs, we have a Proverb for 365 days of the year. How blessed is the man or woman who finds wisdom? It’s not hard to find, open God’s Word to the Proverbs and apply the instructions we have been given. Be blessed.

April 2, 2025 – Proverbs 2 – Proverbs 2:10-12, “For wisdom will enter your heart and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; Discretion will guard you, understanding will watch over you, to deliver you from the way of evil, from the man who speaks perverse things;” I have been taken aback how in today’s church culture, there does not appear to be a sense of reverence for the Lord’s house by those in the pulpit. Pastors will lie in the pulpit, tell unnecessary jokes in the pulpit, slander their congregates in the pulpit and do all types of irreverent things. It would be expectant for those who are lost to speak perverse things, but it is heartbreaking, when Christ has died to deliver us from the dominion of sin, and still those who profess Him, behave as though they are still in bondage. These Proverbs are our pathway to living our lives a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is what we should do for all that God, through Christ, has done for us. When we are born-again, God empowers us with His Holy Spirit. At that point, we become new creatures. Our spirits have been activated by God’s divine power. As we yield to the Holy Spirit, He takes over and purges our mind, heart, soul and strength from the old self and causes us to desire to be like Christ. Wisdom will enter our heart and wisdom will be pleasant to our souls. As we live the Spirit-filled life, the wisdom of the Proverbs will teach us how to discern good from ever and will help us choose the right people to surround our lives.

As you read through and apply the first ten chapters of Proverbs, they will prepare you to wisely live out the instructions in the remaining chapters. They are discipleship instructions for us. God never falls short of supplying us with all that we need. He is an amazing Father and Lord and Comforter. I know you will be blessed as you allow God to build you up in your most holy faith through the wisdom of His Proverbs. Be blessed!

April 13, 2025 -Proverbs 13:12-15 “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life. The one who despises the word will be in debt to it, but the one who fears the commandment will be rewarded. The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, to turn aside from the snares of death. Good understanding produces favor, but the way of the treacherous is hard.” In Proverbs 10, we were instructed that it is the blessings of the Lord that makes one rich and He adds no sorrow to it. When Christ prays for us and the Father blesses us with the prayer we ask that makes us happy. When we must wait it makes us stress and be overly concerned as to what God is doing or is going to do. Stress causes you to be sick. But we delight in receiving God’s grace and mercy.
Some people have left the faith or rejected the faith because they believe that there are too many rules. God’s rules are good for us. Nothing that He commands will have a bad consequence for us. Those who walk away will have to give an account to God and Hebrews tells us that it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of Almighty God. God’s word is meant to be a fountain of life because of the wisdom we receive. It helps us keep away from the snares that can be deadly. We must learn to embrace God’s Word and accept it as God’s good gift to us. We must study it and apply it to every part of our lives.
    Be blessed!

April 1, 2025 – Proverbs 1 – I was definitely not planning an April Fool’s prank for today. I love to celebrate first things and milestones. I pray that God fills your heart, soul, mind, and strength with newness. Proverbs 1:5-7, “A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel, to understand a proverb and a figure, the words of the wise and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

I love to see all the newness that comes to life from the dead of winter. Some of our last leaves fell this weekend, and when I looked up into our massive Oak tree all I saw was green leaves and flowers sprouting along the sides. It was wonderful. As we all walk into this new month, what are some new things or new experiences that God is bringing into your life? Let’s celebrate God’s new things in each other’s life together. One of the new things my family and I will be doing is attending our first homeschool convention. Inspiring Life Books will be an exhibitor for this year’s show, and I look forward to presenting the messages from my book collection to the participants there. I desire to foster a renewed thing of discipling families to raise their children in the training and admonition of the Lord; To build their marriages on the design of Christ and the church as Paul instructed us in Ephesians 5:25-33. I desire to help young people develop a practice of reading and studying God’s Word and create a newness in our youth culture of loving God’s Word. I believe that our young people do not engage in God’s Word because they do not see their parents engaging in God’s Word.
