The Book of Proverbs is God’s life manual to us as we live. I am so thankful that God moved on my heart to publish the journals that encourage reading “A Proverb Each Day”. There is a Proverb for each day of the month, and one of the many words of encouragement is that the reader, “heeds their mother’s instruction”. A woman who fears the Lord and wishes to bring up her children in the training and admonition of the Lord must first know the Lord. I am amazed at how many mothers have turned away from this great calling to be vessels that God uses to train up the children He has given as gifts. In Scripture, we see what happens when a woman is more concerned about having her way, instead of walking in the fear of the Lord. We see firsthand from women in the Bible the result of not having a fear of the Lord. Two women were used as the bookends within creation.
In the beginning, when God created male and female, it did not take long before everything failed by the hand of a rebellious woman, who lacked the fear of the Lord. Genesis 1:6 gives us a glimpse of what a lack of fear the Lord looked like when Eve allowed the devil to deceive her. Genesis 1:6 says, “When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.” A fear of the Lord would have caused her to not even respond to the devil and to immediately find her husband to deal with this situation. What was the result of this? The spiritual union man enjoyed with God was destroyed and the sinful nature was passed down to all of humanity. As a result of this, even today, women continue to attempt to exert authority over men, when they should be walking in unity with him.
I hear my Christian brothers jokingly say, “Ask the boss”. Well, you are the boss of your home bro., your wife is your helpmate who helps you in making godly decisions. When women display a lack of submission to their husbands they are displaying a lack of the fear of the Lord. The devil used Eve’s rebellion at the beginning of creation to reveal what happens when one desires to be his or her ruler. God knew the heart of man and had a plan of redemption. Now that spiritual union can be restored through Christ and we imitate Him in marriage as the husband and wife are human testimonies of Christ and the Church. I am so thankful for God’s sovereignty and that when sent His messenger to share the good news of salvation, with another woman, she did display the fear of the Lord. Mary’s submission and obedience to God have allowed the Savior to come to us. I love how Mary responded to the angel Gabriel in Luke 1:38, “And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.”
Just think how different our world would be if women who profess faith in Christ, would respond to God, through their submission to their husband in this way. It is so important that we teach our daughters to choose godly men of character. My book, “A Proverb Each Day for Youth”, was created to help young people learn the value of making wise, godly choices. I do not watch the news, but it seems like every day, my husband is sharing something, he saw on the news or YouTube about a young person behaving badly. This is both you men and young women. We who follow Christ have the the answers to change our future generations, but their must be a mindset of diligence in pouring the Word of God into the heart of our children.
I have surveyed so many parents, at different book events, asking them if their teen has read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and so many more have said, no, than yes. The saddest thing in my experience is that parents do not seem interested in pursuing their child’s heart for Christ. For some, encouraging their child to cultivate their spiritual lives may feel confrontational, and so many parents come to elevate the mood of their children above what is good for their souls. God still has us here so it is not too late to reverse the mindset of making things of no eternal value more a priority for ourselves as managers of the home, and nurturers of our children. I am so thankful for the many women God has placed in my life who model Mary’s attitude of love and submission to God. God has given us a picture in His Word of two women, who changed the world for all eternity. We have read how their fear of the LORD changed the course of history for all of us. So consider your role as a woman in todays, digital world.
What is the most important goal for your child(ren)? That they get the highest SAT score. Do they have the latest video game? That they know how to do the latest TikTok dance? Or that they become a young person after God’s own heart? At Inspiring Life Books our goal is to cultivate discipleship for every member of the family. If you go to our online bookstore, you will see something that will cultivate a deeper walk with Christ. At our last book event, it was mainly for authors, and there were several people there who were doing interviews with the authors. One young girl stopped by my booth and noticed that of 110 authors who had their books available, I was the only one who specifically had books that were centered on God. She asked me if I would ever write a book that was not about God. I would feel that I am betraying God with the wonderful gift that He has given me, to appease the desires of man, if I wrote anything that did not have Him at the center. As you consider your role as a woman, think about what type of woman you desire to be in all areas of your life. One who fears the LORD, or one who will do what is delightful and pleasing in her own eyes.
Be Blessed!
