Good Evening Inspiring Life Books followers. I pray that this blog finds you all at peace at this time in our nation. This time of year brings visions of fall, thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays. We are blessed by the beautiful colors of the fall leaves and fields and fields of pumpkin patches. Fall festivals abound throughout the neighborhoods, and decorations welcoming in the cool fall seasons can be seen all around us. We look forward to our Thanksgiving feast, parades, and football games during the fall season. But then comes a dark cloud that sours many relationships and the thought of holiday gatherings becomes more painstaking when thinking about the tensions of those with differing opinions meeting together. This is the year of the presidential elections.
Nothing brings more tension in these last decades than politics in today’s divisive political culture. However, for the followers of Christ, nothing should change our hearts and minds when we desire to follow Christ and His Word in our lives. The Word of God commands us to follow the laws of the land. Those laws, however, should never bring us to a crossroads of compromising our faith. The Book of Revelation teaches us that there will come a time when all the leaders of the world will hand their powers to the Anti-Christ and to the beast who will deceive the world. We know that God is sovereign and that the results of any decision is in either His permissive will or ordained will. In the United States, voting is a right, not a law. We can choose to participate or we can elect not to. I have observed that in our current culture, neither side will embrace the commands of Scripture.
Abortion should not be allowed under any circumstance. If a woman was raped, God knew that it would take place. If a child is disabled, God has a plan and a purpose for every soul He breathes life into. God should be the final authority in deciding who lives and who dies, not men, not government, and not women. I have seen that Christians have become more aligned with party allegiance than with their faith. Just because someone appears to hold to Christian values, does not mean that they do. I will not vote for the lesser of two evils. Deuteronomy 1:12-15 teaches us how we should select those to represent us, bring about justice, and lead us. “How can I alone bear the load and burden of you and your strife? Choose wise and discerning and experienced men from your tribes, and I will appoint them as your heads.’ You answered me and said, ‘The thing which you have said to do is good.’ So I took the heads of your tribes, wise and experienced men, and appointed them heads over you, leaders of thousands and of hundreds, of fifties and of tens, and officers for your tribes.”
Then Proverbs 20:6-7 says, “Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven
With the saving strength of His right hand. Some boast in chariots and some in horses, but we will boast in the name of the Lord, our God. Choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil. It is an insult to God, that those who follow Him, would select men or women, who do not follow His Word, live in the application of His Word, or have any fellowship with His people. Yet, because they belong to their favorite party, they will support their bid for office. Our hope should be in Christ, in the last two decades of an election, no matter which party was in office, God supplied all of our needs. This is what God says, about how we should select those we come into a relationship with. This relationship does not have to be person-to-person, it can be person-to-business, business-to-business, or voter-to-representative.
God teaches us this in 2 Corinthians 6:14-18, “Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; And I will be their God, and they shall be My people. “Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate,” says the Lord. “And do not touch what is unclean; And I will welcome you. “And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to Me,” Says the Lord Almighty.” This is what Christ teaches us. There are a lot of politicians who suddenly become fired-up Christians, every election cycle. The Republican Party is not the party of sold-out Christians, and the Democrat Party is not the party of radical God-haters.
We can not align ourselves with evil, it would be better if we did not vote at all than to vote the way of the party just because of party allegiance. In 1 Corinthians 3, Paul teaches us that at the judgment seat of Christ, all of our deeds will go through the fire and if anything was not built on Christ it will burn up to rubble. It is not about the Elephant or the Donkey, we are children purchased by the Lamb of God. Let us remember to whom we belong in every choice we make. Be Blessed!
