Welcome to February! I love February. It is the love month and my birthday month. The first three months of the year hold dear sentimental value to me. January is the month of our wedding anniversary and March 28th, 1992 is the date I gave my life to Christ and was born-again. Thank you for taking the time to journal with me through the Proverbs. I pray that you are being blessed as you develop a life of wisdom.

February 29. 2026 – Proverbs 29 – Correct your son, and he will give you comfort; He will also delight your soul. Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, but happy is he who keeps the law.” (Proverbs 29:17-18) After five attempts to raise my children in the training and admonition of the Lord, I have learned some very hard lessons. The one that I would pass on to those with very young children is this; Correcting your child requires that the parent allows him or herself to be corrected.
Children learn to embrace correction when they see the benefits of it in their parent’s life. The best way that is modeled to them is in how they see dad and mom yield to God’s correction and authority in their lives. When we teach our children that we desire to delight our heavenly Father through how we live, it teaches them that obedience is a good thing. My mom and dad provided some good examples and some not so good examples of this. But I did grow up believing that they feared God and submitted to His authority in different areas of their lives. When I think back to the rebellious times we experienced with our children, I consider first where Greg and I were in obeying God. The greatest environment for correcting our children is in a marriage where husband and wife are submitted to God and live through His correction. What Scriptures did God draw out in you in this Proverb. Be blessed!

February 28, 2025 – Proverbs 28:12-13 – “When the righteous triumph, there is great glory, but when the wicked rise, men hide themselves. He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion.” The Proverbs contain tons of good sense and Godly wisdom. Worldly understanding tries to convince us that the “end justifies the means.” But, God tells us to persevere in righteousness. In politics and our personal lives, if we do not deviate into crookedness, there will be peace, contentment, and even rejoicing. Within the family of Christ, it’s good to be open and honest, to confess our sins.
Indeed, how foolish is it to hide our sins? God sees our sins, and our wrong motives, He knows what we are thinking, and He sees our every act. The discerning can see through our motives as well, even though we assume that they cannot. So, why not just confess my sin to God, in genuine repentance, and get on with growing in the LORD? Doesn’t that make good sense? Whether in a prominent position or my tiny obscure sphere of influence, my righteousness and triumphs – in Christ – will bring blessings to others.

February 27, 2025 – Proverbs 27:1-2 – “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.” Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips.” James teaches us not to say “I am going to do this or that tomorrow” or “Go here or there”, without acknowledging God’s mercy to allow us to do so. My mom and dad taught us to say “If the LORD spares us” when we refer to any future event. I also learned later on in life to say “if the LORD wills” or “LORD willing” when referring to any future event. We don’t know if we will be alive within the next five minutes so to live in such a way is very haughty. On Christmas Eve, 2019, a friend of mine of 19 years passed away. I had talked to her the Saturday before she passed away and then she was gone. She was so confident that we would meet together in her new home, but I never got to see her again, or her new home. We never know what the next moment of our lives will bring, but we do know that whatever that may be, God is in control and He knows what He is doing.
We see in verse two also about the weight of our boasting. We can think all types of lofty things about ourselves but it is not our praise that reflects the quality of our character. It is the praise and reflection of those around us that reflects the quality of our actions. If our actions are truly praiseworthy people will acknowledge it and God will move on the heart of those who are sincere to give you those times of honor. But we don’t give honor to ourselves, that is prideful. Proverbs 27, provides wisdom for us by warning us to have discernment and giving us examples of people and situations to avoid. If we want to avoid strife and sorrows then we should keep ourselves from those who lack discernment and are prideful. The Proverbs are God’s generous gift of wisdom that He has provided to help us become wiser as we walk through this life. Be blessed!

February 26, 2025 – Proverbs 26 – “Like snow in summer and like rain in harvest, so honor is not fitting for a fool.” If in the middle of a Texas summer, I wake up to a snow-covered yard, I would surely be perplexed. Think about how you would feel if you experienced snow in the summertime. The author also wanted us to understand how odd it is for a fool to receive honor. When people behave foolishly, we should commend them or make them feel as if they have done a great thing. I have experienced times when someone would say or do something foolish, and people would applaud or be impressed with their foolishness.
It’s like those who call good evil and evil good: That is foolish. When we support and give honor to those who behave foolishly or in ungodly ways, we contribute to the destruction of their souls. If we want things to change for the better we must support those who are wise and make decisions that may be hard or unpopular but it brings about righteousness and godliness. Take time to read Proverbs 26 today, and put yourself in each of these situations. Learn how to respond wisely to situations that call for applying wise counsel. Applying these Proverbs will assist you in gaining a deeper understanding of these Scriptures. Be blessed!

February 25, 2025 – Proverbs 25 – God may stir each of us in different ways as we go through the Proverbs and that is a great thing because we are ministered to in different ways and from different instructions in Scripture. I am reminded in Proverbs 25:8-12 to be slow to speak in defense of myself because God sees everything. He knows every detail of our lives and we must trust Him as our defender. Psalm 139 teaches us how intricately we are known by our Creator. Sometimes, we may make things worse by hastily trying to defend ourselves.
There is always a right word for each circumstance and only through Holy Spirit guidance and wisdom will we know the right thing to say at the right time. Sometimes people are not ready to hear certain truths or they are not willing to allow God’s truths to grow them in certain areas. We must see God for His wisdom to know when to share and become a wise reprover to a listening ear. Be blessed!

February 24, 2025 – Proverbs 24 – Proverbs 24:1-2, says, “Do not be envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them; For their minds devise violence, and their lips talk of trouble.” When you see that those who are evil appear to be happier and enjoying life more than those who try to live their lives to honor God, don’t let it cause you to become jealous and envious. Learn to live your life so that when you witness evil in others, you will be ready and equipped to overcome it just as we are encouraged in Romans 8:35-37. ” Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written, “For Your sake we are being put to death all day long;
We were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.”In Ephesians 6:10-18, we are told to put on the whole armor of God. This armor is presented to us in various Scriptures. Galatians 5:22-23 is part of our armor, John 4:7-11 is part of the armor, 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 is part of the armor along with so many other Scriptures that Christ gives us to combat the wiles of evil. You will be ready to stand and prevail against whatever those who follow the devil throw at you. God will deal with the sins of the unrighteous and wicked In the end. There is a place blazing with fire and torment where those who live in disobedience will exist forever. This life is temporal but hell is a place of eternal damnation. God will deal with the wicked.
Proverbs 24:5 says, “A wise man is strong and a man of knowledge increases power.” It is wisdom and understanding that give us the strength and power to resist sin and evil and to be victorious instead of envious of those who do evil. I encourage you to think about Proverbs 24 and write down a few ways in which you have gained strength and power in the areas that Proverbs 24 has instructed us today. Be blessed.

February 23, 2025 – Proverbs 23 – I love how God provided discipline for us through these Proverbs. Proverbs gives us so many life situations to learn from. Today, I reflected on verses 9-12. “Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of your words. Do not move the ancient boundary or go into the fields of the fatherless, For their Redeemer is strong; He will plead their case against you. Apply your heart to discipline and your ears to words of knowledge.”
Those four verses of Scripture speak of four different life experiences that we may all encounter as we engage in conversations with others. They also show the responses we may receive from people who are set in their ways, tampering with history and mistreating those who are orphans. Each verse safeguards us from the trickery of the enemy. God desires that we allow Him, by His instructions in the Scriptures, to make us aware of the many minefields of this life. Think about a few Scriptures that tug on your heart and consider what God is teaching you about life and conduct in these Scriptures. Be blessed!

February 22, 2025 – Proverbs 22 – This day is a special day for me. Today, I celebrate 64 years of God granting me life. I am so thankful for how God’s Word has transformed my life. Romans 12:2 and Hebrews 4:12 teach us that the Word of God will transform our minds and it is powerful and active. God’s Word is a trainer. When we depend on God’s Word to lead us, He will lead us and when we are old we will not depart from His Word. As we age and have more and more life experiences the truth of God’s Word becomes more and more evident.
I encourage you to make the best of your time with the Lord and not allow the enemy to cause you to feel as though cultivating your spiritual life is a daunting task. We have to treasure our time in the Lord and learn to enjoy and appreciate that God has given us His Word and the goal is to be trained in the way He wants us to go. He knows what the best way for us is. The training for this life should never stop because when our longing for His Word becomes a chore, we have lost our love for Him. We live in a perverse generation, and the thorns and snares of the enemy are everywhere, but he who guards himself will be far from it. (Proverbs 4:14-15, 4:23 and 22:5) God’s Word is our guard over our minds, our mouths our hearts, and our actions. It will keep us behaving wisely and protect us from behaving foolishly. Be blessed!

February 21, 2025 – Proverbs 21 – God provides us with more insight into life and conduct from these Proverbs. Verses 6-10, deal primarily with how the wicked conduct themselves and simultaneously show us the conduct of the righteous. God makes it pretty simple through these Proverbs to teach us how we ought to conduct ourselves. These Proverbs on life and conduct should help us to cultivate a lifestyle of righteousness. We are not just living from what God has done for us we are living out what God has done in us.
Christ in us should create righteousness in us too. God is an amazingly generous Father. He has supplied us with everything we need to live this life in a way that pleases Him and brings us peace, contentment, and joy. It appears to me that people want to sin and do whatever they want to, but do not want to receive the consequences for their actions. Consequences are internal causes and effects, they are a part of God’s design in creation. What we should reflect on is this. Am I applying these truths to my life? Am I intentional about making wise decisions? Am I allowing God’s truth to help me become who created me to be? It is my hope is that you will respond with a resounding yes to all of those questions. And if not, God accepts you whenever you are ready to humble yourself. Be blessed!

February 20, 2025 – Proverbs 20:19 – “He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, therefore do not associate with a gossip.” This was my takeaway Scripture from my reading today. We go through great care in making sure we stay away from bad people. We might put people like murderers, thieves, sexually immoral, and liars in this category, but the Bible tells us not to associate with gossip. In my personal experience, gossip is usually viewed as a woman or a group of women. It seems like we as women were built with this automatic motor that starts in our mouths when someone tells us a secret. It’s like we have to tell another person what we are privy to. God had to give me that visual and caused me to think about how horrible it is to be a gossip.
I had to create some common guidelines for myself to ensure that I am handling what other people tell me in a way that honors God and them. My top three guidelines are these: Is it a secret? Meaning did the person share it with only me because that person only wants me to know? Do I have that person’s permission to share it? Even if I hear someone else sharing something that I was told in confidence I would not share it. How would I feel if someone shared that info about me? I think that this is a part of our sinful nature as women, but as Christ peels away our old self in sin we become trustworthy, a character trait that reflects Him in us. So how about you? What verse or verses caused you to pause or ponder about gossip and being trustworthy? As you consider the topic of being a gossip, how does this help you to self-evaluate and make changes in your life? Think about it. Be blessed!

February 19, 2025 – Proverbs 19 – We gain wisdom and insight as to how people respond to each other in different socio-economic classes in this Proverb. The wisdom that was written for the people of Israel 1000 years ago fits just right as we look at the attitude of people today. Ecclesiastes tells us that there is nothing new under the sun. There is no difference between one who lied then to one who lies now.
We know that a generous person will always be called upon for favors and that we love those who give us gifts. We know from our own experience that the poor are always treated worse than anyone else. I encourage you as you read through this varied treasure of wisdom to reflect on how true these Proverbs are about man and how we behave towards one another. The amazing thing about the Proverbs is that these amazing words of wisdom teach us how to behave, react, respond, and understand each other. We only need to read a Proverb each day and we will soon begin to understand humanity and why we all need Jesus.
Proverbs tell us everything about how man behaves when he or she is righteous and when he or she is evil. I was encouraged and inspired by how God knows us perfectly and the Proverbs are proof of His knowledge. I hope that as God is filling you up with His wisdom you experiencing more and more spiritual growth and pouring that wisdom out to those around you. Be blessed!

February 18, 2025 – Proverbs 18:4-6, “The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters; The fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook. To show partiality to the wicked is not good, nor to thrust aside the righteous in judgment. A fool’s lips bring strife, and his mouth calls for blows.” As you read through the Proverbs, God will stir up His insights and reflections in your heart for certain verses. Take time to meditate and ponder what God gives you and if you have time post a comment of the verse so that we can be encouraged.
I am blessed to be surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses in the faith. As we encourage each other or go about speaking to others remember what the Proverbs teach us. Our words are deep waters. To us, our words may seem trivial but to someone else it can be a fountain of blessing or a spear in the heart. God wants us to use our words to point people to Him. When we are wise our words bring healing but when we go about as fools our lips can bring strife and the enemy will use our words as blows to hurt others. Think about that. May God richly bless your rest and bring you peace through this weekend. Be blessed!

February 17, 2025 – Proverbs 17 – The Proverbs contains over 900 Scriptures that teach us the difference between how to live righteous lives and the consequences of behaving unwisely. We have the Books of the Law and the Epistles that also teach us how to live holy lives. God has been faithful in giving us clear expectations of how He desires us to relate to Him. He inspired faithful men to write, print, and translate His Word so that we could all understand it.
He then inspired men and women with a passion for teaching and disciplining others to embrace it. But most of all, God sent the Word in human form to speak to us. I hope you will never tire of studying God’s Word and desiring to know God intimately. In Proverbs 17:4-8, we learn about the things that delight evil people, and we also learn about the consequences of evil behavior and gain instructions as to why we should seek to live righteous lives. Do you ever see yourself reacting in these same ways? God desires that we confess and repent when we do and then propose to change those behaviors going forward. Our desire to conform to God’s character is evident in His conversion in our lives. Be blessed!

February 16, 2025 – Proverbs 16:4-7 Proverbs 16:4-7 “The LORD has made everything for its own purpose, even the wicked for the day of evil. Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; Assuredly, he will not go unpunished. By lovingkindness and truth iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the LORD one keeps away from evil. When a man’s ways are pleasing to the LORD, He makes even His enemies to be at peace with him.” Here we learn about the sovereignty of God. God has made EVERYTHING for His purpose (my emphasis). This means that there is nothing that can exist outside of God’s control. Understanding the truth about God can transform our spiritual life. God made His decision about today before today was ever created. When we learn to live through God’s sovereignty it impacts every part of our life.
When we come to understand and embrace that no matter what happens in our day God has a purpose for it, we will live in a special kind of contentment. The one who rejects this becomes proud of heart because they make themselves out to know better than God and that person becomes an abomination. However, when we take God at His word in faith, we please Him and He will control those around us so that they are even at peace with us. That is an amazingly powerful God who demonstrates His love and faithfulness to those who trust Him. Take time to consider God’s sovereignty. What does that mean to you? How can this help you in dealing with day-to-day life? How can this help you to grow deeper in your faith? Be blessed!

February 15, 2025 – Proverbs 15 – Proverbs 15: 4-6, is the focus of today’s insights and reflection. ”A soothing tongue is a tree of life, but perversion in it crushes the spirit. A fool rejects his father’s discipline, but he who regards reproof is sensible. Great wealth is in the house of the righteous, but trouble is in the income of the wicked.”
We all love the words of those who bring us encouragement and comfort. It refreshes us and causes our joy to increase. When we have joy our perspective and attitudes change even our bodies behave differently when we signal to them that we are happy. When we are encouraged it changes our facial expression and illuminates the hearts of those who are blessed by the joy within us. The Scriptures also instruct us to stir each other on to good works, to things that do good to others. However, harsh and ugly words have the opposite effects. Mean, vindictive, profane, and unloving words cause our hearts to be heavy our faces change to sadness, and that too impacts those who look upon us. Deuteronomy 30:19 is a Scripture that always reminds me about my attitude about life.
“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants.” A soothing tongue and a righteous lifestyle bring life to us and to those in our households, neighborhoods, workplaces, and churches. I encourage you to think about the kind of spirit you give out around other people. Are you a tree of life to others or do you crush the spirit? Remember Jesus said, He came to bring us life and bring us life more abundantly: A life that is filled with hope and anticipates good things and is an encouragement to others. Be blessed!

February 14, 2025 – Proverbs 14 – Happy Valentine’s Day!! A trustworthy witness will not lie, but a false witness utters lies.” A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge is easy to one who has understanding. Leave the presence of a fool, or you will not discern words of knowledge.” As I read these Scriptures, I noticed a downward progression of the persons spoken of in these Scriptures. First, they lie, then they scoff, and then they become fools. God in His infinite wisdom gives us these insights into the Scriptures so that we can avoid ungodly behaviors that can destroy us. Let’s take a look at this progression in real life.
A person has decided that they would rather lead a life of lies and deception. That person is untrustworthy. If they are confronted or corrected they will scoff at you to avoid being exposed. They believe that they are wise in their own minds but instead, they are not and can not come to understand wise counsel. These people become fools as they refuse wise counsel but they will lead others astray with their deceptions. It all started with a lie. We have come to accept a mindset that everyone lies. As believers, whose lives are now filled by God’s Spirit, speaking what is true should be our aim, but it requires us to yield and listen to what God says to us through Holy Spirit.
Consider your attitude about lying. How do you allow the Holy Spirit to correct you? Do you scoff when someone confronts you? We don’t have to lie. Fear triggers lying. God’s perfect love will cast out our fears and lead us to speak what is true. Be Blessed.

February 13, 2025 – Proverbs 13 – Proverbs 13 is another Proverb that instructs us in parental counsel. We build wisdom into the hearts of a child when they are young. As they grow older, we continue consistently reinforcing Godly principles into their hearts. There are many life lessons in these Scriptures to help guide us as parents. They also give sound wisdom to children teaching them how they should respond to their parent’s instructions. The proper response will help to shape their child’s heart. Verse one gives us a picture of the two types of responses we can expect from our children. “A wise son accepts his father’s discipline, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.”
One of the most important tasks we have as parents is to help our children understand that discipline is good for them. It means that we help to develop a teachable spirit early in their lives. As we pray for them and be an example to them of having a teachable spirit God will be able to speak His truth into their hearts and minds. We will help them not become scoffers and mockers who live like a fool. Take a few of these precious truths from Proverbs 13 and use them to cultivate godly wisdom for your child or children. Be blessed!

February 12, 2025 – Proverbs 12 – This Proverb has an array of wisdom to glean from. It’s like a flower bed of many flowers. Flowers that smell different, look different, have different heights, and serve different purposes. We receive an endless array of beauty as we look upon all the flowers joined together in one place singing forth to our Creator. That is how I envisioned Proverbs 12. Although there are varying words of wisdom that provide understanding for us in different ways and for different purposes, they all will prepare us to have the wisdom we need in the right circumstances.
When we understand wickedness and how it negatively impacts people we will be able to see it in our own lives and seek God in helping us weed it out. When we understand the rewards and spiritual benefits of being righteous then we will strive to live righteous lives. Either way, whether we purge sin out and allow God’s Spirit to make us more like Him, or we embrace righteousness, the result is that we will be like a flower bed too. We will give off that sweet fragrance before the Lord and cause Him to delight in us. Spiritual growth should abound as we continue reading, “A Psalm and A Proverb each day”. Be blessed!

February 11, 2025 – Proverbs 11 – February 11, 2025 – Proverbs 11 – A dear friend of mine, Ms. Mary Diggins, shared this insight about Proverbs 11, a few years ago when I had a Proverbs Each Day Group on Facebook. I would like to have shared these insights again here. From Ms. Mary Diggins:
“When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, And when the wicked perish, there is joyful shouting. By the blessing of the upright, a city is exalted, But by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down.”
It may seem like the wicked are winning, and for a time they may be. But, long term they are losing, and in the end, they are going down. I think the average person intuitively knows this, but the Word of God encourages us to walk upright. Don’t despair in doing good. Be Blessed

February 10, 2025 – Proverbs 10 – In Proverbs chapter 10, we return to the contrast of the wicked and the righteous. In this section of Proverbs 10, I reflected upon the insights for cultivating a good standard of living. As followers of Christ everything we do should be of high quality. God commanded the children of Israel in Deuteronomy 30:19 to choose the blessed life. That is a life that is lived in total submission to God and actively apply His word to all aspects of life. God delights in blessing us when we live our lives to bring glory to His name. Remember Cain and Abel? God was pleased with Abel’s gift but not with Cain’s and He instructed Cain in Genesis 4:7 how to develop excellence in His life so that we would not fall to sin.
Proverbs 10 encourages us to plan wisely and to utilize our resources wisely so that our days will not be burdened with constant struggles. God does not want us to wickedly want things so that we can have it for ourselves. He wants us to be generous as He blesses us. We can not be lazy and think that we will prosper. We have to gather up or learn to save money wisely and when we do our lives will be at peace. We will sleep soundly because we planned wisely. How can these Scriptures encourage excellence in your life? Are there areas in your life where you can be more diligent? It may be that these Scriptures will also help you to cultivate excellence in other areas of your life. As you ponder these things this week open your heart and will to God and watch what He does. He can do more exceedingly abundantly above all we can think or imagine according to the power that works in us. Be blessed!

February 9, 2025 – Proverbs 9 – I love this Proverb. It tells us exactly how God calls us into His wisdom so that we can make the right choices in this life. We get a clear picture of what the process of deception looks like. I love having a spiritual picture of what we experience on this earth. Wisdom has a place for us to dwell and take residence in. Our minds will be filled with God’s Word when we do so. As it says in Psalm 119:11, “Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You.” Godly wisdom helps us learn how to react to sin’s invitation through the temptations we experience. To me, the Women of Folly is a picture of sin and temptation that awaits those who do not build their lives on the wisdom of God’s Word. God has sent out His patriarchs, Apostles, disciples, prophets, teachers, and pastors to call us to know His wisdom through the Scriptures. But the naïve, the foolish, those devoid of salvation go along and are punished and ensnared by sin’s trickery. God calls us to proceed in the way of understanding to avoid the strife of those who live through their folly. Be blessed!

February 8, 2025 – Proverbs 8 – Proverbs 8 teaches us about wisdom. What is it? Where did wisdom come from? What is her purpose and why do we need it? Take time today and allow God’s Word to teach you about this amazing person called wisdom. Take time to answer those questions as you read Proverbs 8 today. For the believer wisdom is someone who helps to guide us through the paths of life. I find it quite interesting how wisdom is described in various Proverbs.
Before reading a Proverb each day, wisdom was an abstract concept, that I believed was a trait I needed to have. I sought it out only when I needed it. But as I began to read the Proverbs more and more I learned that wisdom should be constantly guiding us and walking with us through our lives. God’s Word is so amazing and it is filled with powerful truths to help us to become more like Christ. But that will only happen when we accept God’s Word as truth and as that which mold and shape who we are. Wisdom was with God working since before the foundation of the world and wisdom is still God’s master craftman who makes us into God’s masterpieces. Be blessed!

February 7, 2025 – Proverbs 7 – Proverbs 7 reminds me of the importance of the instructions in Psalm 119:11, “Your word I have treasured in my heart that I may not sin against you.” What does that lead me to? Psalm 38. Treasuring God’s Word will lead us to treasure God. Treasuring God will lead us to cultivate fellowship with Him. Can we treasure God or His Word and sin? No! God loves and treasures us, and He knows the destruction that sin will bring into our lives. Because He desires that we live this life to the fullest. He wants us to resolve sin in our lives. What an amazingly loving and caring God we serve! As you read through this chapter, you saw the result of a person living without God’s Word to help them identify evil and avoid being ensnared by it. In this account, the young man appears unwise, without any discernment or direction. The Word of God will direct, warn, and convict us when sin attempts to overtake us. Treasure God’s Word in our hearts will protect us from the deceitfulness of sin.
Proverbs 7:2 teaches us this very thing. “Keep my commandments and live, and my teaching as the apple of your eye.” We saw how the fruit in the Garden of Eden caught Eve’s eye and caused her to sin. Let God’s word be that fruit in your eyes. Please note how Proverbs 7:1-4 describes how we should be intimate with the Scriptures. What do you glean from these Scriptures?
Be Blessed!

February 6, 2025 – Proverbs 6 – Proverbs 6 in the NASB Translation is titled “Parental Counsel.” As parents, God expects us to prepare our children for life by instructing them in God’s Word. We are to help them understand the difference between what is right and wrong and what is good and evil. We are to allow them to speak wisely and choose their words carefully because if we talk without thinking, we can find ourselves in all types of strife and drama. We should even help them to make decisions that will lead them to prosperity instead of poverty. Today’s parents face so much pressure from the high-tech, social media-intense culture we live in.
Every generation of children has had something competing for their undivided attention. But our task as parents is to keep their attention on God and their relationship with Christ, just as the father in the Proverb for today instructs his son in the common snares of those days. As a parent, what teachings can you take from Proverbs 6 to help your child live better lives as adults? What important life lessons can you use as parental counsel to your child? I would love to hear your insights. Please visit our book page if you need resources for your tween or teenager. We have a Proverbs journal to help them examine their life choices and conduct. We also have our Bible survey for youth. The Bible Survey is an easy-to-read summary and outline of the Bible. Reconnecting with God through His Word is essential for our young people to cultivate a bold life of faith. We hope you will check our discipleship tools to help your young person cultivate a vibrant and fruitful spiritual life. Be blessed!

February 5, 2025 – Proverbs 5 – Today, we read about a father teaching his son how to stay away from evil and adulterous women. The father wants his son to make wise decisions about the type of woman he chooses to spend his life with. Although these Scriptures direct a father to instruct his son indirectly, they also send a message to direct their daughters to stay away from evil men. We would not want our sons to make good choices and our daughters to make poor choices wouldn’t we? The characteristics described in this Proverb teach us what type of woman we ought not to be. Here again, we see the father telling his son to gain discretion. If we apply the definition of discretion as a character trait, here is what the quality of that trait would look like: “the quality of behaving or speaking in such a way as to avoid causing offense or revealing private information.”
That definition says a lot about how we should behave as godly women. As you read this Proverb or will read it, what else can you learn about what the father is teaching his son about the character quality of a godly woman? How can you grow to become more like Christ from these Scriptures?LikeLike

February 4, 2025 – Proverbs 4: Proverbs 4 is titled “A father’s instructions”. We can look into the Scriptures more deeply as we consider that these Proverbs are also our heavenly Father’s instructions. This is what God wants us to know about this path called life. As I said in the last post, He created it and knows how to guide us to our blessed end. The Proverbs consistently remind us that there are evil people out there and that we should be able to recognize good from evil. Yet, so many do not. But darkness should flee when the light has entered our souls; evil should escape. Anything that does not represent Christ should flee.
What about you? Are you listening to the Father’s instructions? Have you taken the time today to listen? What has the reading from today taught you? We need not just hear and read, but we must desire to understand what our Father instructs us to do or not do. That is how we live life to the fullest by deploying God’s instructions to us in every part of our lives. Be blessed.

February 3, 2025 – Proverbs 3- Reflecting on Proverbs 3 today, I was inspired to read verses 3-7. When we put our trust in the LORD, we let go of our lives and give all control to God. It’s like riding in a horse-drawn carriage, and the road becomes too difficult for me to navigate the path to my destination. I have to hand over the reins to someone else because I don’t have the ability to do so. Once I do that, I no longer have control of the horses or the path. When I trust the LORD with all my heart, I agree that He knows everything. I agree with Him that He has created and fashioned all the days of my life and has already resolved everything that will come about, and I can live in peace because I know Him and His power.
We are limited in our human abilities. We don’t know what will happen in the next second of our lives, but God does. We do not have the wisdom He has, but He is willing to share His wisdom with us. His wisdom will give us truth and a clear understanding of how we should act or react to our circumstances. We don’t try to help Him manage our lives; we trust His sovereignty and grace. Be blessed, and have a great weekend. For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice, and He preserves the way of His godly ones. Then you will discern righteousness and justice and equity and every good course.” These verses in Proverbs 2 teach us that the fool has no control over their mouth. They say whatever comes out of their mouth. As Christ’s followers, the attributes of the Holy Spirit should define us.
As we allow God to fill our lives, He will teach us how to speak His language. If we talk, we should speak words from a spirit of discernment. Being able to observe and know what to say, when to say it, and whose life God is leading us to speak into. God has not called us to counsel everyone. He fills us with wisdom when we wait to be led by Him. He wants our words to build up and bring life, to lead people to hope and truth. Discretion requires forethought. I encourage you to seek God as you go through your week and speak with your husbands, children, neighbors, coworkers, and friends. He would give you discernment and say that you would use discretion. Be blessed.

February 1, 2025 – Proverbs 1 – Why should we read a Proverb each day? Proverbs opens by telling us the purpose of the Proverbs. “To know wisdom and instruction; to discern the sayings of understanding; to receive instruction in wise behavior, righteousness, justice, and equity; to give prudence to the naive, to the youth knowledge and discretion,” The answers lie in the first seven verses. Yet, many would neglect this book of wisdom and then wonder why their lives are so complex. Further in this chapter, God says that He will laugh when some come into calamity because they did not choose to heed His Word. I get that. He gives us all the knowledge and understanding we need to live according to His plan. Then, if we reject it or neglect it, how can we call on Him and want Him to fix our unwise actions and the messes we get ourselves into? But God is gracious and faithful; he forgives and renews us repeatedly. Let’s get ready to be blessed in this love month by God’s wisdom. Be Blessed!
