Journaling Through the Proverbs – June

Published by

We are almost halfway through 2025. It seems like we were just ringing in the New Year. But we know that time waits for no one. One day rolls in after the next, no matter what happens in this world. Summer is soon here, and many families are looking forward to their summer holidays. Runways will be bustling with airline departures and arrivals all over the world, and in the midst of the excitement that summer brings, life goes on. We don’t stop thinking, making decisions, are tending to the cares of everyday life, and just like in every other season of life, we still need wisdom. So, as we start the busy summer season, let us start with God’s words of wisdom through the Proverbs. Our summer will not only be exciting and memorable, but as we apply God’s Word, our summer and every day of our lives will be filled with God’s peace and contentment when we apply the wisdom of the Proverbs. Be Blessed!

June 30 – Proverbs 30:4-6, “Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name or His son’s name? Surely you know! Every word of God is tested; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him. Do not add to His words or He will reprove you, and you will be proved a liar.”

Proverbs 30:4 intrigues me because it gives a glimpse of Christ coming before the event happened. This verse was written way before Christ came to the earth. However, these Scriptures give glimpses of the details of His death and ascension into heaven. How do we know that Jesus is the Son of God? Because His life is foretold over and over again in the Old Testament. He is intricately seen in various ways through the Old Testament. As I am about to enter a new decade next year, I am a witness that every word of God is tested. I have seen God’s words of wisdom from the Proverbs come to pass over and over again. God is quite able to speak for Himself, and His words need no addition or subtraction. It will bless us either by tearing away the old man or refining the new man within us. Proverbs 30 will help us understand profound things in our world and how God uses these things to teach us wisdom. I pray you will have an amazing time as you spend time in His word. Be blessed!

June 29 – Proverbs 29:1-3 – “A man who hardens his neck after much reproof will suddenly be broken beyond remedy. When the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when a wicked man rules, people groan. A man who loves wisdom makes his father glad, but he who keeps company with harlots wastes his wealth.”

Proverbs 29 is a chapter that helps us to understand the consequences of bad behavior. With each contrast between the good and the evil, the Proverbs provide a clear explanation of the impending consequences that will result. God is not the author of confusion, and He will not allow us to be left without knowledge or understanding. He wants us to seek wisdom because wisdom helps us to stay on the right path. The path that leads to eternal life. I pray that every day you have been blessed as you read the Proverbs for June. We are now nearing the end of our first month in the second rotation of the Proverbs, and it has been a blessing to encourage you all each day. God is a good, good Father, and His love for us is matchless. Keep growing and seeking God, and keep being a student of God’s Word. Be blessed!

June 28 – Proverbs 28:1-3, “The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, but the righteous are bold as a lion. By the transgression of a land many are its princes, but by a man of understanding and knowledge, so it endures. A poor man who oppresses the lowly is like a driving rain which leaves no food.”

Proverbs 28:1 reminds me of those who try to cause fear when there is nothing to fear. There is a lot of that going around today. The absence of truth brings fear because nothing is certain without truth. Most people become fearful when they have no control of a situation and can not see the outcome. Proverbs 28 is a character development chapter. It gives us a description of the acts of the sinner, along with a contrasting act of those who live righteously. As you read through Psalm 28, I pray that you will be greatly encouraged in strengthening your spiritual walk. I know that God will give us each something special to ponder as we study His Word. Be blessed and have a great week, seeing the days God created for you before the foundations of the world.

June 27 – Proverbs 27:1-4, “Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth. Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips. A stone is heavy and the sand weighty, but the provocation of a fool is heavier than both of them.”

My mom and dad taught us to always say, “If the Lord spares”, long before I became a Christian and understood what those words meant. Every day of our lives have already been created, and everyday that God allows us to wake up, we get to see what He created for our day before the foundations of the world. Understanding this about who God has made each new day more and more interesting because I would not only see what God created, but I get to see how He will navigate my life throughout the day. Knowing this helped me to understand verse 2; I have nothing for which I can praise myself. Everything about my life is because of God’s power and authority. If I have any knowledge and if I have grown, it is because of the manner in which He has taught me about this life. As God opens your understanding of the Scriptures today, as you read through the many words of wisdom in Proverbs 27, I pray you will grow in your faith and in the knowledge of our Father and Savior. Be blessed!

June 26 – Proverbs 26:1-3, “Like snow in summer and like rain in harvest, so honor is not fitting for a fool. Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying, so a curse without cause does not alight. A whip is for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the back of fools.”

Proverbs 26 gives various analogies of how the acts of evil will impact our lives, and discusses many characteristics of evil. We are provided with various scenarios that give a picture of the likeness of evil. As you think about your conduct and behavior, how can these Scriptures help you in making wiser choices? As you read through it today, take note of how this Proverb prepares us to have discernment in dealing with the wicked, evil, and ungodly amongst us. We know that the number one need of those who are lost is Jesus. Those who are already ensnared by the enemy do not need to be told off by us; it means sometimes we just have to pray instead of “saying what’s on our minds. God really prepares His people to live as overcomers when we follow His wisdom. Proverbs 26 will help us to be shrewd, discerning, and wise in maneuvering through encounters with those in the enemy’s camp. Be Blessed!

June 25 – Proverb 25:1-4, “These also are proverbs of Solomon which the men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, transcribed. It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter. As the heavens for height and the earth for depth, so the heart of kings is unsearchable. Take away the dross from the silver, and there comes out a vessel for the smith;”

Before the reign of King Hezekiah, the commands of the LORD had become lost because the children of Israel had turned away from God to worship the gods of the nations around them. But what we know about God’s Word is that it will never be lost. God will carry His word to those who have ears to hear and a willingness to obey. King Hezekiah was the son of Ahaz, a king who did not obey the commandments of the Lord and did evil. 2 Kings 16:2-3, “Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not do what was right in the sight of the Lord his God, as his father David had done. But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and even made his son pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had driven out from before the sons of Israel.”

We see through the chapters of the kings of Israel and Judah the difference in the way the people responded to God, by the way their kings obeyed God. When the dross of the wickedness of the evil kings was taken away, the people became vessels for the Lord under the kings who obeyed God. He drew near to His people as they drew near to Him. As you read this chapter today, consider what these Scriptures are teaching us about the character of those we chose to lead us. We need godly leaders to rise up in these days and turn the hearts of the people back to God. Be Blessed!

June 24 – Proverbs 24:1-4, “Do not be envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them; For their minds devise violence, and their lips talk of trouble. By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; And by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.”

There has always been evil. The events of today should not surprise us or discourage us. As you read through these Proverbs today, you will see that God is going to hold every person accountable for the choices they have made. For those who choose to embrace evil, corruption, and deception, God will repay. God desires us to fill our lives with His wisdom. He does not want us to be envious of those who are evil, but we should rejoice in truth and godliness. He has provided His wisdom for us to rise above evil and overcome the temptation of sin. Proverbs 24, like all the other chapters, is filled with wisdom for us to embrace so that we can become the holy people God calls us to be. When He instructs us to live holy or causes us to ponder what was asked in Psalm 24, “who can go to His Holy hill?”, He does not leave us without the answers we need. Be blessed in the word today. God has a blessing for you in His Word. Be blessed!

June 23 – Proverbs 23:1-3, “When you sit down to dine with a ruler, consider carefully what is before you, and put a knife to your throat if you are a man of great appetite. Do not desire his delicacies, for it is deceptive food.”

One of the most exciting experiences one may have is being invited to an extravagant feast. We may dress up and rub shoulders with the status quo, but this should not cause us to desire to be like the status quo. Having riches or socializing with the rich should bring us to a certain place of humility, understanding that it is by God’s grace that we have the things we have. We should not feel that we have to pig out and act unbecoming just because abundance is placed before us. We must have self-control in all circumstances. We may give the impression of being superficial when we behave in a manner of greed. We must learn to live in contentment, no matter who we are in the presence of. Whether we are amongst the rich or the poor, our character should show godliness and grace. Proverbs 23 is filled with practical applications. You can see so much of life in these Scriptures. As God moves and illuminate these Scriptures in your heart today, do not forget to write those insights down so that you may have a reference for the future. God may bring something different through these Scriptures for each of us in varying situations, or He could use a different Scripture for those facing the same situation. However, He chooses to instruct you today, I pray that your heart will be willing and obedient to receive. Be blessed!

June 22 – Proverbs 22:1-3, “A good name is to be more desired than great wealth, favor is better than silver and gold. The rich and the poor have a common bond, the Lord is the maker of them all. The prudent sees the evil and hides himself,
but the naive go on, and are punished for it.”

Proverbs 22 is a chapter that really helped me to be aware of the person I was presenting myself to be and to be aware of the people I would allow in my life. A good name is a name that represents godly character, no matter where the person is. If I am at home, I want to have a good name with my family. If I am in the marketplace place I want to have a good name among those that I engage with. When I am with my brothers and sisters in the faith, I want to have a good name among the brethren.

I want that good name to signify obedience and a genuine love for God and my neighbors. I don’t want to just have a good name at church; I want to have a good life name. I pray that you will allow the truth of Proverbs 22 to dig deep into your innermost parts of the soul and help you to produce that good name that reflects the attributes of Jesus and the fruit of the Spirit. God has an abundance of blessings waiting for you, as He always does. Be blessed!

June 21 – Proverbs 21:1-4, “The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes. Every man’s way is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the hearts. To do righteousness and justice is desired by the Lord more than sacrifice. Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.”

Proverbs 21 provides insights into how God works in the hearts of leaders. In this chapter, it gave special instructions regarding the king. However, the king is a leader or ruler, and there are various roles in today’s world and especially in America, where their are rulers in various settings. So whether there is a king, a President, a Prime Minister, a church leader, a CEO of a company, a teacher, a policeman, God deals with them in the same way. God is our supreme and sovereign leader. No one counsels Him. But He counsels us and expects those in leadership roles to treat others with respect and dignity as He treats those under His rule. God in His sovereignty reigns over all of the matters on this earth. Nothing is hidden from Him or out of His control. He really does manage the path of each of our lives, even when we are not abiding in His Word. He provides instructions on how the ruler should lead and manage his resources and be a good steward of the things He has given them. As we all will have to give an account to God, even the wicked will have to give an account.

As you ponder Proverbs 21 with its many instructions for righteous living for rulers and for each of us, I pray that these Scriptures will bless your spiritual time in the word today. Be Blessed!

June 20 – Proverbs 20:1-3, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise. The terror of a king is like the growling of a lion; He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life. Keeping away from strife is an honor for a man, but any fool will quarrel.”

God has given us such a gift by providing His truth for us to live by. When I first read the Proverbs, I was amazed at how well God was in touch with His creation. Every page dealt with situations, behaviors, and issues that I had participated in myself or seen through the lives of others. This chapter really spoke to me because my family, my children, and my husband’s family have all been impacted by excessive use of alcohol. I grew to despise alcohol as I saw how it destroyed those in my family and took my brother’s life away. Yet people indulge in it like it’s the end all to all of their troubles. Instead, it is only opening the door to troubles in their relationships, their livelihood, their health, their children, and so much more. It is the cause of much strife in this life.

It was interesting that verse 2 used the analogy of a growling lion; this is a similar picture we are given of the devil, he goes about as a roaring lion seeking those he may devour. He uses all of his vices to do his devouring. Strife and quarrels will devour relationships, just as the intoxication from strong drink will. Proverbs 20 is filled with life application, and I pray that this morning, as you read it, God will illuminate His Word in your heart. Be blessed!

June 19 – Proverbs 19:1-3, “Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in speech and is a fool. Also it is not good for a person to be without knowledge, and he who hurries his footsteps errs. The foolishness of man ruins his way, and his heart rages against the Lord.”

I pray that each of you will be blessed by the great words of wisdom in Proverbs 19. God desires that we be those who do not falter under evil. He has given us His word in order that we become strong and can stand firm against the wiles of the devil. He desires that we be watchful and able to discern things from a spiritual perspective and not be deceived by the trickery of the enemy. He has given us His Word so that we can learn to despise the destruction that sin brings into our lives, not to cause us to think that we are better or perfect. We need the word of God every second of our lives because in a split second, the enemy can trip us up. Be blessed as you enjoy the splendor of God’s truth as He ministers to you through Proverbs 19.

June 18 – Proverbs 18:1-3 – “He who separates himself seeks his own desire, he quarrels against all sound wisdom. A fool does not delight in understanding, but only in revealing his own mind. When a wicked man comes, contempt also comes, and with dishonor comes scorn.”

The enemy loves it when we isolate ourselves or hide in shame when we have done something wrong. God tells us that we must confess our sins to Him and to other mature Christians who can minister correctly. We disarm the enemy’s ability to beat us down with the same guilt and discouragement when we confess our sins. Romans 8:1 teaches us that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ… God knows the weakness of our fleshly bodies. He knows we must be empowered by His Spirit in order to resist the temptations the enemy will present to us. When someone insist on being distant and try to resolve the issues of their lives on their own, they are targets for a beatdown in the mind from the enemy.

We show ourselves as foolish when we reject godly counsel or refuse to accept our wrongdoings. But the wicked one will only bring contempt to those who fall into sin. He will build a trap in the minds of those who are powerless against his condemnation. I pray that you each will be blessed as the Holy Spirit stirs your heart through the Proverbs today, to not try to be a lone Christian. We need each other in the Body of Christ to love, encourage, equip, and build each other up. Each of us will gain a different insight through God’s wisdom and instruction. I love sharing God’s wisdom because I know that it is good for us. There is no greater life than one lived through the truth of God’s Scriptures. Be encouraged as you dive into God’s Word today in your own special way, and in your own special place, God will meet you there. Be blessed!

June 17 – Proverbs 17:1-3, “Better is a dry morsel and quietness with it than a house full of feasting with strife. A servant who acts wisely will rule over a son who acts shamefully, and will share in the inheritance among brothers. The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests hearts.”

One of the joys of my life is having peace. My home is usually quiet. We have had our financial struggles, but we have always had peace to go along with it. I don’t like strife, I don’t seek out conflict. I would much rather that we love each other as God has commanded us to than to be in constant drama and strife. There were times in our marriage when Greg and I got along worse when our finances were good. It would make me wonder if it’s best for us to struggle; at least we got along well. But God is a Father who knows how to guide and train His children, and eventually we learn to enjoy those times.

Proverbs 17 opens in a similar way to Psalm 17. Here again, the Scriptures teach us that God tests the heart. God is always testing every motive, every thought, every decision, every act we do. The irony of this life is that many times we know the condition and motives of our actions. We allow the enemy to convince us that we are not who our conscience tells us we are. Or we are being too hard on ourselves, or the other person deserved to be avenged, and we believe his lies. But God’s testing brings us to the truth that transforms us, and I encourage you to allow yourself to be tested. To allow the scrutiny of the Holy Spirit to test you and perfect you so that you can live in the blessings of the Psalms and the Proverbs. Be blessed!

June 16 – Proverbs 16:1-3 – “The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, but the Lord weighs the motives. Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established.”

Proverbs 16 is a great discipleship chapter. We should strive to live a righteous life, and this chapter describes what that righteousness should look like. We are covered by the righteousness of Christ through which God sees us and calls us His own. When He looks at our lives, He sees Jesus instead of our human sin nature and all the yuck that goes with it. That is our inheritance as born-again believers; however, we should also have a righteousness that transforms us in how we live on this earth. Scripture tells us that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us. That is incredible! I want to run and hide from Christians who have a “woe is me”; there are no woes for us. We have the power of Christ dwelling in us that we can be overcomers. God has so much to speak to us in this chapter, and I pray that you will allow the Holy Spirit to fill you with the power of God’s righteousness and commit to live out the righteousness of His transformation as you commit the works of your life to the Lord. Be blessed!

June 15 – Proverbs 15:1-3 – “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise makes knowledge acceptable, but the mouth of fools spouts folly. The eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good.”

Proverbs 15 teaches us a lot about how we respond and the impact of our response. There is great comfort in understanding how to respond wisely. In verse three, the Proverbs teach us that God is in every place, watching everything that everyone does. If God is witnessing a situation, we can rest assured that He will judge the matter correctly and bring about His response in a way none of us can. We can respond gently and in love because we don’t have to worry about the consequences of another person’s actions. It is interesting that these two Scriptures are placed together. I pray that God will encourage you to understand that you can give a gentle answer in the midst of wrath, that His wisdom makes our understanding acceptable, and that He is ruling over all things. Be blessed as you spend time in fellowship with God today. Be blessed!

June 14 – Proverbs 14:1-3, “The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish tears it down with her own hands. He who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord, but he who is devious in his ways despises Him. In the mouth of the foolish is a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise will protect them.”

It is sad to say that someone would actually destroy their own homes, yet we see this happen all around us. God has given us the keys to building home sweet homes, filled with His love, patience, and grace for those who reside in it. A home should be an oasis away from the outside world. It should be a place where training takes place to learn how to exist in the real world. He should be a place where children learn how valuable they are as God has created them for His purpose. This is what the home of a wise woman would look like, but the home of the foolish is certainly filled with heartache. There is a constant blessing that reigns over us when we choose to live our lives in uprightness and in the fear of the LORD. It is not that our lives will be perfect, but we desire that God’s perfect will guide our lives. This earth is not our home, and what happens to us here are opportunities to showcase the Godhead to a lost and dying world. When we live trusting God’s sovereign rule, it shows that God is real and that we have complete confidence in His ability to provide for our every need. When we worry and tear down our relationships and homes apart with the works of sin, we show the opposite. We can be certain that God will either discipline us or judge us according to our relationship with Him. Be encouraged as you read Proverbs 14. God has a message for you through His word. Be blessed!

June 13 – Proverbs 13:1-3, “A wise son accepts his father’s discipline, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke. From the fruit of a man’s mouth he enjoys good, but the desire of the treacherous is violence. The one who guards his mouth preserves his life; The one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.”

Sometimes the best thing we can say is nothing. And silence is sometimes wise. But silence should never be aligned with cowardness. God desires us to be wise. We should have discernment in knowing when the right time is to speak and what the right thing to say. Sometimes being silent can allow others to be deceived by the enemy. God would desire us to lead that individual to His truth. The hard-hearted will not endure truth, and pride and arrogance will result in anger when faced with the truth, but we must be able to discern the difference. May Proverbs 13 encourage you, as it is filled with great wisdom and instructions. I pray that God will give you knowledge and understanding as you yield your mind, heart, soul, and spirit to His word. Be blessed!

June 12 – Proverbs 12:1-3 – “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid. A good man will obtain favor from the Lord, but He will condemn a man who devises evil. A man will not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous will not be moved.”

As we go through this second round of Proverbs and are reminded of the Scriptures we covered in the first half of the year, I pray that God bring fresh wisdom. No matter how many times we hear God’s Word, He will work out good for us. Today’s Proverbs encourage us to embrace God’s love and wisdom. I think about how I watch reruns of my favorite mystery shows and Hallmark romantic comedies, and even though I know exactly what’s going to happen in the end, I sit through each scene again and again just as if it were my first time watching them. How much more does the timeless word of God give us power and wisdom each time we hear it? It’s always powerful, always life-changing, always good for us. As God brings forth the word as you read and study today, cherish the thought that the God of the universe desires to share His brilliance with us. As we abide in His wisdom, we will not be moved by the things around us. Be Blessed!

June 11 – Proverbs 11:1-4, “A false balance is an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight. When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom. The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them. Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.”

God always desires us to act according to what is right, true, and just. He desires for us to show compassion and mercy when it is in our hands to do so. But God’s righteousness looks different than what the world or we may consider righteousness. As you read through these Scriptures today, I pray that you will allow God’s wisdom to teach you His righteousness. Righteousness must be based on Biblical truth. What we align ourselves to or with and what we support should be able to stand up to the scrutiny of Scripture. For instance, if a friend has a conflict with another person, one may think the right thing to do is to support the friend. However, God would want us to consider whether our friend was right in their action. If not, we are to provide correction, or we would be unrighteous in supporting someone who acted in a sinful way. God wants us to weigh things in honesty and not in partiality.

I pray that you will find boundless wisdom as you yield yourself to the study of God’s Word today. Be blessed!

June 10 – Proverbs 10:1-3, “A wise son makes a father glad, but a foolish son is a grief to his mother. Ill-gotten gains do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death. The Lord will not allow the righteous to hunger, but He will reject the craving of the wicked.”

Psalm 127:3 tells us that children are a gift from God and a reward. When I am driving about in certain areas of the city and I see a homeless person or someone on the side of the streets begging, I wonder how did this person got to that place in life. Those whom we see in these conditions were once someone’s baby. They brought joy to their parent at birth. They were a joy to see grow up, and then something happened. I believe what happens is exactly what the Proverbs warn us about. Our lives will either be controlled by God or by the devil’s wiles. When we obey and trust God, He provides a reward for us in so many different ways. When a person gives their lives to wanton pleasures and desires of the flesh, the devil does not provide rewards, but only to destroy them. He hates life; he is disgusted at the sight of humankind because we reflect the image of God. However, many neglect that image and give themselves over to darkness instead of the light. I pray that the wisdom of this Proverb will transform your life and draw you near to our Father. Wisdom is essential to live a life that is Spirit-led. As you read these Proverbs, I pray that you will find a renewed understanding about God and His intimate involvement in the workings of every detail of our lives. Be blessed!

June 9 – Proverbs 9:1-5, “Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn out her seven pillars; She has prepared her food, she has mixed her wine; She has also set her table; She has sent out her maidens, she calls from the tops of the heights of the city: “Whoever is naive, let him turn in here!”
To him who lacks understanding she says, “Come, eat of my food and drink of the wine I have mixed.”

God has given us all we need to be wise. He even tells us to ask Him for wisdom and He will give it to us liberally. Having wisdom is not about one’s opinions. Wisdom is about knowing the mind of God, thinking in a way that is rooted in Scripture and not in human opinion. Wisdom looks for what is true and spiritually constructive, not at who will like what you say and who won’t. Wisdom will point us to God and not to self. As you go through the Proverbs today, allow God to give you His wisdom. Be careful to pay attention to what He is teaching you. It may not be what is culturally popular or politically correct, but it should be Biblical. Be blessed.

June 8 – Proverbs 8:1-4, “Does not wisdom call, and understanding lift up her voice? On top of the heights beside the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; Beside the gates, at the opening to the city, at the entrance of the doors, she cries out: “To you, O men, I call, and my voice is to the sons of men.”

God desires that His children be wise. Just like the Psalm we are reading for today, Proverbs 8 teaches us about the amazing qualities and attributes of God. Because of who He is, we can trust His knowledge to deal with all the issues of this life because He has created all things. I pray you will develop wisdom for your soul as you feast on these Scriptures. God has wisdom to reveal to you today; expect Him to do something amazing for your soul. Be blessed.

Proverbs 7:1-3, “My son, keep my words and treasure my commandments within you. Keep my commandments and live, and my teaching as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart.”

These Scriptures remind us again to treasure God’s commandments. God must tell us the same thing over and over again, because He knows how hardhearted and stubborn we can be. He spent thousands of years dealing with the children of Israel. He watched man deteriorate from perfection in the Garden of Eden to total corruption. So He knows that we need to be told the same thing many times over before His teachings become a part of who we are. When we finally submit to His teaching, we allow His word to be written on our hearts. His Words become our words, but that takes time. In this chapter, we will see the results of not heading the instructions in Proverbs chapter 5 can do to a young man lacking sense; Lacking the character and wisdom to make wise choices and know bad character when he sees it. When we build a godly foundation of fearing God and abiding in His Word, we gain understanding and discernment to avoid tragic situations.

We learn from Proverbs 1 how to say no to people who offer us sinful choices, but God says also in Proverbs 1 that He will not listen to those who do not heed His instructions when they fall into a bad situation. We can avoid it altogether when we obey His word. I pray as you read Proverbs 7, you will allow God to write His word on your heart. May you all be richly blessed as you spend time in God’s presence and partake in His Word. Be blessed!

June 6 – Proverbs 6: 1-3, “My son, if you become surety for your friend, if you have shaken hands in pledge for a stranger, uou are snared by the words of your mouth; You are taken by the words of your mouth. So do this, my son, and deliver yourself; For you have come into the hand of your friend: Go and humble yourself; Plead with your friend.”

The world we live in today is run by those skilled in stirring up greed. Many of the things we have are just things that are extra. We pledge and become stacked with debt because we are made to believe that we need. We can be sure of nothing, and God warns us against making decisions based on our own human wisdom, as if we know what will happen in the future. We may not keep the same job we currently have. The economy may have an adverse event. Jesus could come and take us all home. God has taken Greg and I through the last three years of learning to stay away from unnecessary debt and not making decisions based on what we think may happen. It was a necessary chastening, and I am so thankful for the Father’s discipline. We live within our means for today, for tomorrow will take care of itself. Romans 13:8 teaches us, “Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.” We should have a debt of love for one another instead of a self-centered debt of want. As you partake in Proverbs 6 today, consider what word of encouragement and wisdom God has for you today. We have an endless treasure of wisdom in God’s Word, and I pray you will be richly blessed as God fills your heart and soul today. Be blessed.

    June 5 – Proverbs 5:1-3 – “My son, give attention to my wisdom, incline your ear to my understanding; That you may observe discretion and your lips may reserve knowledge. For the lips of an adulteress drip honey and smoother than oil is her speech;

These verses in Proverbs 5 provide instructions on a specific issue of life and give instructions in dealing with a certain type of woman. This can be both a warning in discerning the type of woman you want to stay away from or a teaching in how to build godly character that does not lead to one becoming an adulteress. In this day and age, the practice of developing godly character in a child’s heart no longer appears to be important.  Parents are more focused on their child being the next sports star, graduating from the best college, or becoming the next celebrity.  God has given these insights, particularly in how we raise our sons. The person that our child or children choses to associate with can have either a positive or negative impact on their lives and with these Scriptures we already have the upper hand as parents in guiding our sons to avoid the wrong type of woman.

We have many insights to make wise choices from the wisdom that God gives us through the Proverbs. God has created us for a glorious purpose, and I pray that each and every one of you will walk in His glorious purpose for your life. Be blessed!

June 4 – Proverbs 4:1-4, “Hear, O sons, the instruction of a father, and give attention that you may gain understanding, for I give you sound teaching; Do not abandon my instruction. When I was a son to my father, tender and the only son in the sight of my mother, then he taught me and said to me, “Let your heart hold fast my words; Keep my commandments and live;”

There is no real living outside of God’s commandments, precepts, statutes, and instructions. In Deuteronomy 30:19, God teaches us about choosing life, “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,”

Living is not having all the money in the world, all the best things in the world, all the fame and power. Living is knowing the salvation of the LORD. I am not concerned about this world, or the things of this world, as it has to do with my peace and my joy and my livelihood. I have the peace of God that comes through knowing that God is my Father, Jesus is my Lord, and the Holy Spirit is my helper. That’s real living, desire to have peace with God because then you will be content when the world is spinning out of control. Ladies, this joy we have, the world did not give us this, and the world should not be allowed to take it away. Okay, let me calm down. Lol, because I am getting excited over here. So as you read this in your morning time with the Lord, be excited that we live through our obedience and love in the Lord. Be blessed!

June 3 – Proverbs 3:1-2, “My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands; For length of days and long life
and peace they will add to you.”

One of the best gifts God has given us is His commandments. They are good for us all around. There is nothing unkind, harsh, or harmful in abiding in God’s commandments. However, there is much harm and destruction in rebellion. Yet, so many choose to rebel instead of rest in the goodness of God by keeping His commandments. Obedience says, “I love you” to God. The foolishness of man continues to deceive him into thinking that sin is better than holiness. How about you? Do you receive the commandments of the Lord with gladness and submission? Is pleasure more gratifying than obedience? Think about it. Be blessed!

June 2, Proverbs 2: 1-5, “My son, if you receive my words, and treasure my commands within you, so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding, if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.”

What do these Scriptures teach us about understanding the fear of God and finding the knowledge of God? How should we live? What steps can be taken in truly knowing God? How do our choices reflect our willingness to obey God? In our world of out of control youth, we can clearly see that these Scriptures have been cast away. We see the result of a generation not subject to any authority or even taught to be defiant against authority. There are too many parents that are searching for their own fame, desiring to be social media influencers or preoccupied with the lives of social media influencers. We must return to the instructions of the Proverbs that teach us the rewards of fearing God and abiding in His Word. God delights in blessing those who trust and fear His name. We don’t miss out on life when we follow Him; we experience the fullness of life. We are in bondage to sin when we desire to follow our own ways. Sin will never lead to anything good, but following God will lead us to know His goodness, even will we face difficult trials in this life. When we hold God’s Word as a treasure in our lives, we will receive a great return on our investment. Be blessed!

June 1 – Proverbs 1:8 – 19 – “My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother; For they will be a graceful ornament on your head, and chains about your neck. My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. If they say, “Come with us, let us lie in wait to shed blood; Let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause; Let us swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole, like those who go down to the Pit; We shall find all kinds of precious possessions,
we shall fill our houses with spoil; Cast in your lot among us, let us all have one purse”— My son, do not walk in the way with them, keep your foot from their path; For their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood. Surely, in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird; But they lie in wait for their own blood, they lurk secretly for their own lives. So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; It takes away the life of its owners.”

These Proverbs remind me of the current out of control state of our youth through out the nation. Our news headlines are filled with youth behaving badly. I never join in on what the world wants me to join in on. I never rally with the evil of those in darkness. We should always approach life’s events with the understanding that God has created everything before the foundations of the earth. So whatever happens in our day, God has already seen it. He did not change it, so there is a purpose in it. It is not for us to become nervous or scared, or display anything that shows that we do not believe that God is who He says He is. Scripture tells us that this world is not our home. Those in the world will deal with the world’s issues in their own worldly manner.  The actions of those in the world may be rooted in the flesh, in self-centered motives, in achieving a personal agenda, or in trying to undermine the process altogether.   They will repay evil with evil and fight their battles with violence. But those of us who follow Christ are to imitate Him in the way He handled the issues He encountered.  We must bow before the throne of God, bidding for His wisdom, grace, and mercy, and salvation to help us live this life in the fear of the Lord, applying His Word and not our own ways to the issues we face. Be blessed!
